And what happens next? Will streaming services continue to be the clear winners of the pandemic? What will happen to cinemas, festivals and, of course, large and small film productions? Will the new year bring new hope or will everything stay the same? But it is also a fact that the film industry, with all the creative people behind every single project, is naturally innovative and creative and can rise to every challenge and perhaps draw new strength and inspiration from them.

In addition, the announcements in the coalition agreement give hope that the acute problems will be addressed in the short term, keyword: legal certainty for co-productions. However, the current developments in the fight against the pandemic show that film culture is not classified as systemically relevant. The new constellation could further advance this trend – or counteract it in a targeted manner.
